چکیده
Neurilemomas (schwannomas) are relatively rare tumours, a high proportion of which develop in the head and neck.' A review of 480 benign neurilemomas recorded in the literature mentioned only 24 cases arising from the brachial plexus,1-5 all of which were characteristically difficult to diagnose, since they appeared as an increase in the supraclavicular volume which oriented diagnosis towards lipoma, lymphoma, metastasic adenopathy, and so on. None of the cases described mentioned an intrathoracic development of the tumour.

[A case of benign schwannoma arising in the brachial plexus with intrathoracic extension].
A case of benign schwannoma originating from the lowest trunk of the left brachial plexus with intrathoracic extension was reported. Intrathoracic growth of a schwannoma of the brachial plexus has been reported in only five cases in the literature. The patient was a 35-year-old man and had been pointed out an abnormal shadow at the left lung apex on the roentgenogram since 20-year-old. The tumo...
متن کاملSchwannoma of the Brachial Plexus: A Rare Case Report
Introduction: Brachial plexus schwannomas are extremely rare tumours of the head and neck region accounting for less than 5 % overall. Due to its rarity and anatomic complexity of the brachial plexus, schwannomas in this region present a diagnostic and surgical challenge to the surgeon. Case Report: We present a case of a 56-year-old female who presented with a slow gr...
متن کاملSchwannoma of the brachial plexus; report of two cases involving the C7 root
Brachial plexus schwannomas are rare tumors. They are benign nerve sheath tumors and only about 5% of Schwannoma arise from the brachial plexus. They pose a great challenge to surgeons due to their rare occurrence and complex anatomical location. We present two cases who presented with a supraclavicular swelling, that were proven to be schwannoma on histopathology.
متن کاملManagement of Intrathoracic Benign Schwannomas of the Brachial Plexus
Primary tumours of the brachial plexus are rare entities. They usually present as extrathoracic masses located in the supraclavicular region. This report describes two cases of benign schwannomas arising from the brachial plexus with an intrathoracic growth. In the first case the tumour was completely intrathoracic and it was hardly removed through a standard posterolateral thoracotomy. In the ...
متن کاملSchwannoma of the brachial plexus presenting as an enlarging cystic mass: report of a case.
We report a rare case of schwannoma of the brachial plexus presenting as an enlarging cystic mass. A 52-year-old woman was found to have a rapidly enlarging cystic lesion in the left pectoralis minor space. Surgical exploration finally found that the lesion was schwannoma originating from the fascicles of the brachial plexus. Partial removal of the fluid enabled us to dissect the mass without d...
